Cancer
Learn about alternative treatments for canine cancer
Nobody ever wants to hear the "C" word, whether it pertains to a family member of the
two-footed or four-footed variety. The thing to remember when you do hear it, though, is that there are
options! Chemotherapy is usually the first treatment that springs to mind -- and it is a viable option for
many kinds of cancer. But it is not the only way.

Kody, pictured here at age 12, lived a virtually normal
life with cancer for over two years without chemo. We treated him with acupuncture, dietary supplements and a raw
diet.
Holistic medicine can be a great alternative to aggressive,
expensive drug-based treatments. Acupuncture, herbs and other botanicals, along with dietary changes, can be
very effective in treating cancer without the harmful and unpleasant side effects of chemo.
But we don't advocate sticking your head in the sand where conventional
treatments are concerned. Talk to a traditional vet, see a veterinary oncologist, ask for suggestions from a
holistic vet, read all you can about various treatments, and THEN, when you have fully explored all the
options, make an informed decision. That's what we did when Kody (pictured
above) was diagnosed with lymphosarcoma.
Even if you do choose chemotherapy, you can supplement it with natural
treatments which can minimize chemo's side effects.
